RICHWOOD, W. Va. — Highland opened its spring track season last Friday at the Pocahontas-Richwood Invitational at Richwood High School.

Eight teams participated in the meet with Shady Spring taking home both the boys’ and girls’ team titles.

The Ram boys scored 12 points, while the girls scored one.

Patton Hull took home a second-place finish in a field of 18 runners in the 200-meter dash with a time of 25.95 to lead all Highland athletes.

Hull was also eighth in the 100 meters (12.65) and seventh in the long jump (15-8) and John Wagner placed eighth in the discus (97-0).

The Ram 4×100 team of Hull, Wagner, Owen Honaker and Elijah Good placed fourth with a time of 52.00.

Colleen Adams led the HHS girls with a sixth in the high jump (4-6), a seventh in the 100-meter dash (14.61), and a ninth in the 200-meter dash (32.24).

“We were short a few athletes, but I thought the kids competed well,” said HHS coach Colby Jackson. “Owen and John stepped up for us and did very well in the 4×100 relay. We had to cut the 4×400 relay due to injuries and having a doubleheader on Saturday. Patton did great and ran his personal best in the 200-meter. We are looking forward to being healthy and competing next week.”

Highland will run at East Hardy, W.Va., next Tuesday.
