MONTEREY — Parker Bryan’s RBI single capped a three-run bottom of the fifth for Narrows, completing a comeback win and a Pioneer District varsity baseball doubleheader sweep of Highland here Saturday afternoon.

The Green Wave topped the Rams in the 13-8 opener, before walking off the hosts in game two, 10-9.

Narrows trailed 9-7 entering the fifth (Narrows was the home team in the second game) and scored three times without making an out.

Eli Moore had two hits, including a three-run homer in the fourth, and drove in four runs for the Rams, John Wagner had two hits and drove in three, while Zach Armstrong went 2-for-2, including a solo home run, his second of the day and third of the year, and scored three runs.

Evan Kimble and Elijah Good each had one hit.

Patton Hull took the mound loss in relief. Armstrong, Moore and Hull combined to strike out seven, walk 12 and give up nine hits.

Tucker Bryan and Sam McGlothlin had three hits each for the Green Wave.

Narrows rapped 13 hits in the opener, including two hits and three RBI from McGlothlin, Elijah Knoetze and Parker Bryan.

Armstrong, Wagner, Tristan Carpenter and Good each had two hits for Highland with Hull, Kimble, Moore and Zack Wright adding one each. Armstrong’s home run was a solo shot in the bottom of the first.

Wagner was hit with the mound loss. He went 4.2 innings before giving way to Levi Warner, who got the final Narrows out in the fifth.

“The first game we made some errors,” said Rams coach Cole Armstrong. “There’s a good chance we win that game if we don’t make those errors. The second game was a heartbreaker. We just ran out of pitching. We came up a little short.”

Playing four games in four days, with three more scheduled this week, puts a strain on the pitching staff.

“You have to make decisions,” the coach said. “Do you keep a guy in for the maximum pitchers or do you save him? There’s a lot of decisions to make. Hopefully, we made the right decisions.”

Highland fell at home to Pendelton County on Wednesday, 9-2, and scored a 14-10 road win at Pocahontas County on Thursday.

Cashton Kisamore slugged a home run and was the mound winner for the Wildcats Wednesday, while Caleb Armstrong and Travis Owens each had two hits.

Highland was limited to three hits, singles from Hull, Carpenter and Kimble. Hull and Carpenter scored runs, while Wagner and Kimble had RBI.

Wagner took the mound loss, allowing five hits and three runs — one earned. Warner pitched three innings of relief.

The Rams trailed Pocahontas County 6-1 after two innings on Thursday, but scored two in the third, three in the fourth, two in the fifth and six in the sixth to take command.

Kimble had three hits, scored three runs and drove in four to lead the winners. Moore added two hits and three RBI, Hull had two hits and scored twice and Carpenter had two hits and two RBI. Wagner scored four runs.

Wright allowed four earned runs over 5.2 innings to grab the mound victory for the Rams, with Armstrong and Carpenter working in relief.

“We are hitting the baseball,” Armstrong said. “Hopefully that continues and good things will happen.”

Logan Keatley was 4-for-4 at the plate for Pocahontas.

Highland (0-2 Pioneer District, 2-4 overall) had a home game on Monday with Tygarts Valley, W.Va. postponed. They hosted Parry McCluer on Tuesday and go to Craig County today.
