MONTEREY — John Wagner staked Highland to a lead early and the Rams went on to defeat Bath County last Thursday night 55-37 in a Pioneer District boys’ basketball game.

Wagner scored 10 of his game-high 24 points in the opening quarter, giving Highland an 18-9 lead after one. The Rams led 31-13 at the half and 42-22 after three quarters.

Zach Armstrong added nine points for the Rams and Eli Moore had eight.

Moore had nine rebounds and three blocked shots, Elijah Good had eight boards, while Armstrong handed out nine assists and had five steals.

Luke Turner scored 16 of his team-high 20 points for the Chargers in the second half. Braiden Mabe had six points and Owen Perdue added five.

Chargers play well at Narrows

Bath County went to Narrows last Friday and had the Green Wave on the ropes before falling 75-65.

The Chargers led 47-40 at the half.

Narrows outscored its guests 20-10 in the third quarter to take the lead and won the fourth period, 15-8.

Hunter Owens scored 18 points for the winners, while Elijah Knoetze added 12.

Issac Ingram scored a team-high 23 points for Bath County and Luke Turner added 21. The Chargers knocked down 10 threes — five from Ingram, four from Turner and one from Cooper Lowry.

The Charger jayvees finished the season, losing to Narrows, 47-33.

Cooper Sutphin scored 16 points for the winners.

Nathaniel Turner led Bath County with 16 points, Miguel Rosado had eight, Parker Cauley scored five and Cade Perdue added four.

The Charger jayvees are now 4-11 on the season.
