MONTEREY — Amelia Good hit a pair of big third-quarter threes and Highland held off visiting Eastern Montgomery down the stretch, beating the Mustangs, 25-21, in a Pioneer District junior varsity girls’ basketball game here Tuesday night.

The Rams led 16-10 at the half on the way to their eighth victory of the season.

Good finished the game with a team-high 11 points, Colleen Adams had six points, three assists, nine steals and five blocked shots, Makynley Smith and Hannah Meyerhoeffer each scored three points and Brooke Williams had two points, eight rebounds and three blocks.

Lyla Jo Sutphin scored six points to lead the Mustangs.

On Saturday, Highland lost a 49-20 decision to the varsity team from Union Educational Complex.

Sophie Carr had 17 points for Union, which led 27-13 at the halftime break.

Adams and Adelaide Baxter each scored five points for the Rams, Williams and Meyerhoeffer had four each, and Anna Meehan added two.

Baxter had four steals, Williams pulled in 11 rebounds and Meyerhoeffer had six rebounds.

Highland (4-3 Pioneer, 8-6 overall) was scheduled to play at Bath County on Wednesday, before hosting the Chargers on Friday night.
