BUENA VISTA — Langston Cook scored a game-high 26 points, including 13 in the fourth quarter, leading Parry McCluer to a 53-42 Pioneer District boys’ basketball win over Highland Tuesday night.
The game was the district opener for both teams.
The Fighting Blues led by just two after three quarters, 34-32, but Cook’s big final period and a 6-for-6 effort at the free throw line was enough to hold off the visiting Rams.
Braedyn Houck added 10 points for the winners.
John Wagner had a big 20-point, 11-rebound double-double for Highland, and Zach Armstrong scored 10 points and had seven assists. Elijah Good had six points and 13 rebounds, and Eli Moore had six points and seven boards.
Monday night, the Rams won a non-district matchup with Richwood, W.Va., 52-35.
Wagner had 15 points for HHS, Moore scored 11 points, had six rebounds and four steals, and Armstrong just missed a triple-double with seven points, 10 rebounds, 11 assists and three blocked shots.
Good added seven points and three steals, and Hull had seven points, five rebounds and three steals.
Christian Neal and Christian Griffith both scored eight points for the Lumberjacks.
Highland (0-1 Pioneer District, 2-3 overall) is off until Thursday, January 2, when they host Harman, W.Va.
