FRANKLIN, W.Va. — Highland’s middle school volleyball team split a pair of matches to open its volleyball season.
The Rams defeated Tygarts Valley, W.Va., at home last Thursday, 25-12, 25-10, before losing a road contest in Pendleton County, W.Va. on Tuesday night, 25-8, 25-19.
In the victory last week, Highland leaders included Cynthia Warner (five aces, five points), Lalea Mullins (three aces, five points, one kill), Ruby Huffman (two aces), Wren Cox (one assist, six aces, six points), Lucy Honaker (five aces, five points) and Addison Sponaugle (three aces, four points).
On Tuesday, Mullins had seven points, two kills, two aces, one assist and one dig, Honaker had three points and one kill, Cox had four points and three aces, Sponaugle had an ace and Kendra Meredith scored a point.
The Highland roster includes seventh graders Marley Hindman, Ruby Huffman, Kendra Meredith, Lalea Mullins and Cynthia Warner, along with sixth graders Wren Cox, Lucy Honaker, Brielle Ruckman, Addison Sponaugle, Leah Turk, Haven Wilfong and Summer Wimer.
The Rams (1-1) are at home on Tuesday for a doubleheader with Parry McCluer.
