RICHWOOD, W. Va. — Highland opened its 2024 track schedule last Friday, competing in the Richwood High School Invitational.

The Ram girls scored 29 points and placed fifth out of six teams and the HHS boys put up 31 points and finished sixth out of seven.

Jazmine Douglas had a big day, winning the 200-meter dash (29.92), finishing second in the 100-meter dash (14.11) and joining Zalea Good, Colleen Adams and Annah Moyers for a third-place finish in the 4×100-meter relay (57.60).

Zach Armstrong placed fourth for the Ram boys in the 400-meter dash (55.78).

The boys’ 4×100-meter relay team of Armstrong, Jaden Veasey, Patton Hull and Eli Moore was third (48.90) and the 4×400-meter relay team of Elijah Good, Hull, Moore and Armstrong placed second (4:08.81).

“We had a good meet,” said Highland coach Colby Jackson. “It was the first time we ran the 4×100 for our girls and only one member of the boys had ever run in competition. They both got third and competed well. We have to clean up hand-offs and get our first leg block start crisp and they have a great opportunity to compete in that relay.

“The boys 4×400 ran great,” he added. “Also, another first for our group. I have high hopes for them competing in that race. They have the talent to see the state track in that race.”

The Rams run at Waynesboro High School next Wednesday.
