MONTEREY — It took overtime and a huge effort from Levi Warner, but the Highland boys’ middle school team got into the win column last Wednesday.
Warner scored 18 points and grabbed nine rebounds, leading the Rams to a 27-24 home win over Green Bank, W.Va.
Highland led 10-9 at the half, but trailed 16-14 after three quarters. The game was tied at 22 after regulation. Preston Jaccard added seven points for the Rams (1-9) and Gavin Neave scored two.
Neave led the winners on the boards with 10 rebounds and joined Warner with two steals. Colton Propst had eight for Green Bank.
The Highland girls routed Green Bank 35-13 last Wednesday, before losing on the road at Pendleton County Saturday, 39-8.
Makynley Smith had 15 points in the victory, Addison Lockridge scored 10, Brooke Williams added four, Brooklyn Bussard scored three, Daisy Moyers had two and Violet Neave had one. Highland led 16-2 at the half.
Haiven Brown scored eight points for Green Bank.
In Saturday’s loss, Lockridge had six points for the shorthanded Rams (7-4) and Amelia Good scored two.
Tia Heavner had 10 points for the Wildcats.
The Rams close their middle school season on Friday at Marlinton.
