NEW CASTLE — Eli Moore scored eight of his team-high 12 points in the final period and Highland overcame a two-point deficit after three, downing Craig County, 38-36, in the Pioneer District boys’ basketball opener for both teams.
The Rams led 21-14 at the half, but were outscored in the third quarter, 15-6, before rallying.
Moore added seven rebounds to his dozen points, Greg Meehan hit three triples for his nine points, John Wagner had eight points, Patton Hull scored seven and Zach Armstrong had two.
Wagner pulled in a team-high eight rebounds and Armstrong had six rebounds and five assists.
“The guys played hard and didn’t give up,” said HHS coach Thomas Moore. “It was a great team effort.”
Matthew Lucas led the Rockets (0-1 Pioneer District, 2-3 overall) with 13 points and Talon Ritter scored eight.
The Rams (1-0 Pioneer District, 1-2 overall) played at Boys Home on Wednesday and are back to Pioneer District play on Friday, hosting Bath County.
